       Marie Saunders, RN, BC, BSN,  is an educator, consultant and speaker who draws on practical experience as a staff nurse and manager in nursing homes. She is well-known to members and staff of state nursing home associations as a knowledgeable speaker with realistic, practical solutions to problems. Marie is often on-site with facilities for surveys and consultation on management, documentation and compliance issues. Her expertise in all aspects of resident assessment is based on in-depth understanding of coding the MDS to achieve accurate Quality Indicators, Quality Measures and highest reimbursement. Marie has been an educator in university and technical school nursing and medical record programs. She is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center in both Gerontological Nursing and Nursing Informatics.

Joan Laarman, MSW, helps long-term care facilities team build with effective strategies to make the most efficient use of staff and resources. She uses her expertise in enhancing programming and staffing for dementia units to help build strong frameworks for the highest quality care with available resources. She has been a nursing home social worker for 14 years and has expertise in admission/discharge planning, adjustment issues, assessment and care planning, dementia care, behavior management, coordination of referrals, and counseling. Her experience and interpersonal skills combine to make her the obvious choice to orient and train nursing home social workers, as well as problem-solve with an experienced staff to build a strong interdisciplinary approach to resident care. Joan earned her MSW from Michigan State University and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Wisconsin
